Boater Safety

Your safety is our top priority

At Vermilion River Adventures, every excursion begins with safety. Our kayaks, canoes, pedal boat, and fishing boat are regularly inspected and maintained to keep them in optimal condition. All boaters are required to partake in boater safety training before departure via the training resources below. We reserve the right to refuse rental or charter services to anyone behaving in an unsafe manner, or anyone that refuses the mandatory safety training.

In accordance with Illinois law, each adult boater (ages 13 and up) must have (readily accessible) a wearable USCG-approved Type I, II, or III personal flotation device (PFD), while all boaters under 13 years of age must wear a PFD at all times. All boats are equipped with proper safety equipment, including whistles, air horns, and first aid kits. Regardless of age and what the law requires, we strongly encourage all participants to always wear their PFD at all times. It only works if you’re wearing it.

Alcohol and boating don’t mix. We discourage alcohol consumption on any Vermilion River Adventures vessels.

Safety Resources below have been provided by Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) via RentalBoatSafety.com unless otherwise noted.
